Wannabe
This is a particularly controversial subject, though my opinion on it isnt really uncommon, there seems to be a facebook devide on the subject, and as usual i find myself on the more difficult and controversial side of the debate. I am not really looking for an argument, although I am unusually rattled by this, so thought id post it anyway, risking a backlash of opinion, which i hope doesn't come Headline - 'Next on the ITV news - the Macan's visit the Vatican - we have a full report of the Macans visit to the pope.' "Placed in the spot reserved for dignitaries, the macans share in prayers." I am very sad by this story - I hope that the child is found safe and well very soon. Somehow I do think that this media interest can only help find the girl, infact im quite confused by my stance on this.. But, I feel really uneasy about the whole thing, Its turning into a big brother type spectacle, where the parents are being turned into celebrities, they are getting rich, seeing the pope, staying on holiday a long time, talking calmly on tv. It just doesnt feel right. I realise this is to do with the media, and perhaps one should not blame the Macans for this. I just feel uneasy that this one child has provoked such a huge, and soap opera like following, where the news spends half an hour discussing the trip to see the pope, or the fact there is no news, when, although we are sad that these people have lost their child, I'm not sure its right to use the news reporters time in this way. We hear they are going to see the pope, we are intrigued, what will happen, what will they do, what will they say, - its like watching the bigbrother clips show every night or to watch the next episode of eastenders. Why were there cameras in the popes face as he talks to the family, why do we all have peer into their lives so much. There are children murdered, kidnapped and lost all over the world every day. What makes this one so special? Its gotta make you think, why do we need to embrace this one particular drama so fervently?

Finished but drained
I know after my big re-entry into the world of 20six, (I know! How excited you all were! - hehe) my posts have been seldom and boring. Ah whats new I hear you shout. - Anyway.. I have a reasonable excuse.. I have been day and night doing two dissertations and yesterday was the big dissertation dash. For those of you not familiar with this tradition, its the interesting spectical of support/ mocking, as one watches final year students sprinting from their school offices to the hand in offices (one side of the campus to the other) to try and get there before the 5pm deadline.

Now I must say, I was not involved in this years disseration dash, as I was very good and got mine in at mid-day. But the point really is... Its over.. its done! I have an exam on wednesday next week, but im not fussed about it, and it shouldnt be as much stress to prepare for as the dissertations. This morning I lay in bed until almost mid day, I was drained and felt really ill. Its been a huge stress, and when one has to keep on top of it, it seems your body goes into a state of 'damage control' when one lets yourself relax, things just fall apart. Hopefully after a restful day today I'll recover and be able to concentrate on my exam. Lots of chocolate is the answer I think |

Well I was inspired by recent tv programs to give you an over view of my perfect night in 6:00 The Simpsons (you cant get better humour or feel good programming) So its not very intellectual, but after my days pouring over books and dissertations that is the best night of tv i could possibly imagine.. What TV programs make you feel happy? |

I hope if any of you guys are reading from the P27 feed you will visit more often, and comment, coz it would be really nice for my blog to see visitors like the good old days (and ill try and keep you guys amused as far as possible) Well I know ive got one reader.. *waves at Pete!* lol xx |

Last night
Last night Mark and I made like Paparazzi and attended the Burning of the Clocks festival in Brighton. Armed with our Nikons we barged ourselves to the front of the crowds lining the streets: "Make way.. Important people with big cameras coming through" We didnt manage to get many great shots as there were huge armies of people and so all the shots had someones elbow or head in the foreground but we had a great fun time. Mark took his position of Important Photographer very seriously and as the last of the procession went past us he gestured to me and ran off around the corner to a different road, that he hoped, if we ran fast enough, would mean we would head them off and get to the front of the procession again.
So twice we raced around the streets in the brighton lanes, sprinting with our cameras, pushing to the front of the crowds, nudging little children out of the way, in persuit of that perfect shot. I cant say that either of us managed to produce the perfect photo, but we both had fun and im sure all that sprinting did us the world of good!
I know today is friday and a lot of you will be jetting off to start your xmas this weekend, have a good one.. Looking forward to hearing about all your presents when blogging begins again. Happy Christmas all of you x |
