This is a particularly controversial subject, though my opinion on it isnt really uncommon, there seems to be a facebook devide on the subject, and as usual i find myself on the more difficult and controversial side of the debate. I am not really looking for an argument, although I am unusually rattled by this, so thought id post it anyway, risking a backlash of opinion, which i hope doesn't come Headline - 'Next on the ITV news - the Macan's visit the Vatican - we have a full report of the Macans visit to the pope.' "Placed in the spot reserved for dignitaries, the macans share in prayers." I am very sad by this story - I hope that the child is found safe and well very soon. Somehow I do think that this media interest can only help find the girl, infact im quite confused by my stance on this.. But, I feel really uneasy about the whole thing, Its turning into a big brother type spectacle, where the parents are being turned into celebrities, they are getting rich, seeing the pope, staying on holiday a long time, talking calmly on tv. It just doesnt feel right. I realise this is to do with the media, and perhaps one should not blame the Macans for this. I just feel uneasy that this one child has provoked such a huge, and soap opera like following, where the news spends half an hour discussing the trip to see the pope, or the fact there is no news, when, although we are sad that these people have lost their child, I'm not sure its right to use the news reporters time in this way. We hear they are going to see the pope, we are intrigued, what will happen, what will they do, what will they say, - its like watching the bigbrother clips show every night or to watch the next episode of eastenders. Why were there cameras in the popes face as he talks to the family, why do we all have peer into their lives so much. There are children murdered, kidnapped and lost all over the world every day. What makes this one so special? Its gotta make you think, why do we need to embrace this one particular drama so fervently?
