After my attack of claustrophobia a couple of days ago I had a pretty much rubbish seminar today All the way to uni I felt sick and claustrophobic on the bus. When people got on or sat next to me I prayed that it wouldnt make me feel worse. The smaller the space around me the worse it was. I kept thinking about getting off the bus or giving up on the seminar completely. I decided I would fight on and see how I felt when i got there. Waiting outside I was terrified about going in and feeling ill, the butterflies in my stomach didnt help. As everyone walked into the room I ducked inside the girls toilet to hide and decide how I was feeling. Coming out the toilet I ducked past the seminar room and went down the stairs heading for the exit. Just before leaving I changed my mind and headed back up to the seminar. Still feeling waves of nausea and wondering if I should go in I paused in the corridor ouside and leant up against the wall feeling sick and scared. As one of my classmates went in I took a deep breath and followed her in because I really didnt want to miss any more classes. Georgia: *to tutor* I might have to leave at some point in the lecture because ive not been very well Tutor: Well try your best not too Georgia: *annoyed* Well I've been feeling very sick so I might HAVE to. Sitting there gulping down waves of nausea and urges to pack up my stuff and leave, the taught and dragon like tutor turned on me. Tutor: So.. Is Utopia actually an ideal.. *pause* *looks at Georgia* How about you.. Georgia: *no idea* *stutter* Ive been ill. Tutor: Oh... So have you not read it? Georgia: Yes I've read it! Tutor: Well then... *looks at Georgia and waits* Georgia: *long pause* erm *longer pause* I guess so. *Pause* I dont know Class: *stunned silence* Georgia: no, its not that, its just ive been ill... Tutor: youre here arent you..! Georgia: Im sorry I dont know *fights back tears* My tutor in fact did apologize to me after the seminar had finished and I explained the situation to her.. But she really is a dragon!!
Another rubbish day
Tutor: Oh I'm sorry dont you like being talked to directly?! *looks around class* is there anyone else here who doesnt like being talked to directly?

IanB / Website (19.10.06 14:48) You might like to keep in mind the Disability Discrimination Act - like the European Human Rights Act it's the stick that will be used to beat all street-level bureaucrats about the head when they sneer at people that do not fit their idea of the master race. What a cow. |

Purple / Website (19.10.06 15:06) that's not very nice!
Sounds like she's not a very nice person! |

Georgia / Website (19.10.06 15:12) Im sure she means well, shes very harsh and critical though, even if you pronounce a word wrong when youre talking she will correct you before you can keep speeking, most seminars i have been to at uni are much more informal and laid back than that. |

elpherlol (19.10.06 22:16) Could try some rescue remedy on the tongue before, during and after attacks and the blowing in the paper bag or alternate nasal breathing; block one side, breathe in, hold, block otherside gently breathe out and then in, hold and repeat alternating sides until you feel better. Also try breathing in through the nose and out through pursed lips, gently does it else it make you dizzier. Also buy some of those acupressure bands that you wear on the wrist usually for travel sickness but great for nausea generally.Eating or sucking anything with ginger will also help. Lets talk again soon. |

Richard (20.10.06 15:14) Yeah I saw you getting stressed out with her in the seminar. She had a go at me at the end for not speaking at all as well (in a roundabout way). You've only got her for 7 more weeks so unless she upsets you further just ignore her, she's like someone out of the League of Gentlemen! You could complain to your student rep, who might set things in motion...Hope you feel better soon, I'd had a word with your personal tutor if I was you. |

Georgia / Website (20.10.06 15:33) Yeah Richard.. I know that everyone in the seminar finds her harsh. Its just so much like being back at school or something.. I can cope with her.. I expect she wont talk to me again!! |
